Why lease a Mercedes-Benz

Synonymous with luxury, the Mercedes-Benz brand is a world leader in automobile manufacture, especially in the fields of automobile safety and innovation. This is also very much apparent in the Mercedes van leasing arena with the brand providing power houses full of functionality and critically for businesses, versatility and an affordable entry into contract hire and leasing.

Mercedes-Benz is a division of Daimler AG, a German automobile manufacturer. The Mercedes-Benz is reserved for luxury cars, coaches, vans and trucks and its slogan is "Das beste oder nichts" (the best or nothing).

Mercedes-Benz traces its origins back to 1886 and to Karl Benz's creation of the very first petrol powered car - the Benz Patent Motorwagen. In the same year Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach converted a stagecoach by placing a petrol engine in it. The resulting Mercedes automobile was marketed in 1901 by Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft.

Following the merger of Karl Benz's and Gottlieb Daimler's companies Mercedes-Benz began producing vehicles in 1926.

Over the years Mercedes-Benz has been responsible for many safety and technological innovations that are, today, common in other vehicles.

These include:
  • The 'drop chassis' - the first car to be named Mercedes-Benz was also the first car to have the recognisable 'car' design and configuration of a lowered carriage and front engine.
  • The first passenger car to have brakes on all four of its wheels was developed in 1924.
  • The safety cage - a construction with front and rear crumple zones was developed in 1951. This is seen by many as one of the most important innovations in automobile construction and safety. Airbags were first introduced to the European automobile in the Mercedes-Benz 1981 S-Class
  • Many types of safety equipment, including seat belt pre-tensioners, ESP (electronic stability programme) and brake assist, were all initially developed, tested and implemented by Mercedes-Benz.
